The long wait is finally over for Thor and me as our new house welcomes us!
NOTE: People have been asking to follow our progress as Thor and I pursue our quest for our dream home with sunsets over the Salish Sea. So starting with my post of 5/21/22, we set out.
After more than a year in a small rental duplex (we had expected six months until the county’s insanely inefficient permitting processes kicked in), Thor and I were more than ready to finally move in to our new house. We had warned our builder and his partner that we were going to move in at the end if May no matter what stage of completion, as we couldn’t bear to lose another summer locked up in claustrophobic, dark quarters. So Meshak and Ken stepped up and completed almost all of the interior by our deadline, with exterior details like deck railings and more dirt excavation remaining.
The lovely oak floors arefinally revealed from beneath the protective cushioning. There was a LOT of construction dust that the cleaning experts had to tackle before we could move in.
Thor was salivating about his new kitchen! I even enjoy doing the cleanup and dishes as I admire the beautiful granite that has streams of different minerals and garnet inclusions — my birthstone.
What I’ve dreamed of forever — my writing aerie overlooking the sea, where eagles swoop past to their own aerie in the neighbor’s fir tree.
The master bedroom waiting for our bed:
Master bathroom finished. I am really pleased to see how the colors of the “Beach Glass” accent tiles worked with the paint color. And that bubble tub….
Guest room/yoga room:
Guest bathroom:
I am so in love with the granite in this bathroom counter that I can’t bear to keep anything on top of it.
Our swim spa emerges from storage to arrive at its new home! Thor and I are both very ready for the healing exercise of regular swimming, especially after we’ve each had two big orthopedic/spinal surgeries within the past 12 months.
Thor felt the floors needed an extra cleaning before the first-stage movers arrived with just the things we’d had at the temporary rental.
First-stage moving day, getting things out of the duplex and a storage unit. Dan “DaMann” and his assistant did a great job packing everything into one rental truck, including our king-size bed and our desks and computers from our temporary office in the duplex second bedroom.
Thor had been so excited about the new kitchen that he’d ordered all new implements, and pots and pans that would work with the induction range.
At the end of the moving day, following the guys around to point where things would go, and getting the bed set up, and a hundred more details to attend, I gratefully collapsed for my first soak in our amazing bubble tub. Ahhh….
Then the first of what has become our nightly ritual — watching the sunset over the Salish Sea from our high bank.
I was sure I’d dreamed it all, and then woke up to a sailboat skimming by across the sunny sea. As they say in Greece, “Chairete!” Rejoice!
Next week: Second-stage move and settling in for lots of work.
