The Rambling Writer Book Review: Two Scorched Men by Margaret Atwood

You can’t go wrong with Margaret Atwood!

“Two Scorched Men” is a short memorial essay from Scribd Originals, with Atwood’s memories of John and Francois, both shaped by their experiences during World War Two. Since I had studied Atwood’s novels in literature courses, and then taught her stories at university, I was eager to see this new work. She remains, as ever, ironic, witty, and wise. Through domestic episodes when the author lived in France with her husband and befriended these two very different men — one British and one French — she reveals the damage they suffered and the compassion they showed each other. A lovely glimpse into her past!
