The Rambling Writer’s Quest for Home, part 11: Walls & Windows

Thor’s and my dream home looks like a real house now!

NOTE: People have been asking to follow our progress as Thor and I pursue our quest for our dream home with sunsets over the Salish Sea. So starting with my post of 5/21/22, we set out.

A lot has happened since my last progress report of January 13! Last we saw here, the roofers were going at it:

Luckily no one fell off the roof as they walked along the edges, and they were soon done.

The view from our upstairs master bedroom always thrills us! (We will be putting in more plantings to soften the look of the required bank-edge native plant buffer zone.)

A new crew arrived to wrap Tyvek around the exterior. Thor loves it when the house is a hive of activity.

Picking out tiles — this is for entry and bathroom floors.

The great room now has windows and propane fireplace installed.

Electrical installed and walls ready for insulation:

Ducting ready for the heating system, a hybrid of heat pump and a propane booster to bring up temperature quickly.

Hardiplank siding came next.

Exterior ready for painting:

Once the heating system was up and running, and insulation installed in the walls, the house doorways and windows were closed to warm everything up for drywall installation.

Tools of the trade:

Thor, recovering from his second shoulder replacement surgery, can hardly wait for his shop and arm to be ready for his tools and projects. We have a list, including building a window seat for the great room, which he’s designed to house our stereo components and speakers. Of course, Bear dog will help.

Thor turned over paint-color decisions to me. I have made many trips to Lowe’s for paint samples, and more samples, as the colors never seem to look the same once we have a sample swathe on drywall pieces….

We brought a picnic to keep up our strength while we waited for this batch of samples to dry. (Hint: none of the above colors worked out, so it was back for more to try.)

A restorative low-tide walk on nearby Semiahmoo Beach:

Next time, more painting, tiles, and stairs!
